When we came home from the mountains the first thing I did was to check on the boat. The boat cover didn’t look good at all and the wind was blowing really hard. I decided then and there to take down the cover completely to avoid any damage. Today I rebuilt the cover while enjoying the sun and calm weather.

There are still boats at the club that need attention before the next bad weather arrives in a couple of days, hard winds and lots of snow is promised.

This is the greenest and greyest Christmas I can remember since moving to Sundsvall some 25 years ago. Luckily for cross country lovers we have man made snow at Södra Stadsberget.

Yesterday I visited the lookout at Södra Stadsberget. From there you a a magnificent view of the city. Our boat club is squeezed in between the Ortviken paper mill and highway bridge. It´s not the most beautiful place to have a boat club but it is very practical.

Checked on the boat today. The weather lately has been miserable, it’s been raining like crazy. Gone is the snow, greyness has returned. Longing for some new snow. Longing for spring. Five months on the hard to go.

It’s seven months until the boat is launched. I find a photo from Ulvöhamn that I haven’t noticed before. The sun is shining, boats are bobbing, people are having a good time and the trees are moving in the wind: The epitome of summer.

In the nineties I owned a green Hilleberg Nammatj 2 and I used that tent a lot, both in archipelagos and in the mountains. I was very happy with that tent but I sold it to a friend around the turn of the millennium. Since then I have mostly used the Hilleberg Staika and Soulo.

Back to the anniversary gift from my employer: I chose a gift certificate. The gift certificate I used at Naturkompaniet to buy a red Hilleberg Nammatj 2 GT, a tent I´ve dreamed of for a couple of years.

I now have the pleasure of owning three red Hilleberg tents. This is how I plan to use the different tents:

• Staika: Sea kayaking with my wife.
• Soulo: Sea kayaking alone and small local hikes alone.
• Hilleberg Nammatj 2 GT: Winter trips in the mountains alone or summer hikes with my wife.
